Louboutin High Heel Shoe Themed Birthday Cake!

by designershoesblog on August 28, 2010 · 25 comments

This is a Louboutins shoebox birthday cake featuring a gumpaste high heel shoe that is SUPPOSED to be Louboutin shoe! LOL! I really tried! LOL! I have since learned that the Louboutin trademark is the red sole of the shoe so this gumpaste shoe was obviously not an exact replica. Se la vie! The cake is a yellow vanilla butter cake with a vanilla/almond buttercream icing and is sure to be delicious! The lid of the box was 2 pieces of foamcore I glued together, cut with my scroll saw, and then covered with fondant and airbrushed. The entire cake was airbrushed a beige color blending some Americolor airbrush colors. The board was also covered in fondant and airbrushed. The tissue paper emerging from the box is all pre-colored (by me) gumpaste. Hope you all like my first attempt at a shoebox cake and high heel shoe! :)

Thank you! Haha! I still have both shoes and I guess I’ll hold onto them in case someone else ever wants a shoe made! :)

Well it turned out amazing! Can you tell me where you got the shoes and what brand they are in case I decide to try this myself? And did you use a smaller size?

laurapoopie January 31, 2010 at 05:34

Thanks a lot! The shoes were bought at some cheapo store. LOL! Almost like a swap meet or something! I paid $7 for the shoes. Can you believe it? You can literally use ANY high heel. The brand of these were Xotchil. :)

Hi Laura:

I just have one question: Why did you choose to make the tissue paper out of gumpaste rather than fondant?

Thanks!

laurapoopie February 20, 2010 at 02:53

Hi! At first I had planned to make the tissue paper a lot wavier by supporting it with scrunched up paper towels and such. But once I started adding the gumpaste I realized that if the tissue paper stuck up too much, it really wouldn’t look like tissue paper, rather more like a basket! LOL! So I decided to abort my plan. I had already colored the gumpaste and didn’t want it to go to waste. I did make sure to tell the client not to eat it. Just to peel it off along with the box lid. :)

How in the world did you cut out that label??? It is so detailed. I have trouble cutting out easy letter to look nice. You just used an exacto??? It looks like it was done on a cutter (cricket) Nice job. Any help with the letters would be awsome. If you could email me that would be great. I love how you do our videos in an all black backround. Do you go back and edit a black backround? Thanks so much.
Oh, Didi u make a template for the top of the shoe?

laurapoopie March 24, 2010 at 21:31

Yes, believe it or not, just an Xacto knife! LOL! I just googled the Loubouton logo and saved the pic on a memory stick and went to my local cake supply where they printed it out on edible paper for me. Glad you liked it! It WAS a pain in the butt! LOL! For the black background I just hang some black material on a carboard project board. Sorry, no template… Just made it by pure guessing. :)

laurapoopie April 25, 2010 at 00:00

Thank you! Haha! Yes, pinkboxcake put up their part 2 the day after I finished my cake.LOL! It wouldn’t have been much help any way since the heel they made is a strappy heel. I”m just happy I was able to figure it out. :)

computer138 May 7, 2010 at 10:08

how did you figure out to make the top part of the shoe?

laurapoopie May 7, 2010 at 11:51

Just thought about how the piece would look flat. Drew it out on paper so I at least had an idea what it SHOULD look like… LOL! Then I just tried over and over and over again until it came out. :) It was a HUGE challenge but it felt so good when I figured it ou! :)

computer138 May 7, 2010 at 16:01

ok, so I guess you just used plastic wrap to hold it up untill it dried?

laurapoopie May 7, 2010 at 22:13

Kleenex. LOL! :)

MrDoggy1997 May 9, 2010 at 08:22

How much did it cost?

laurapoopie May 9, 2010 at 20:35

Hmmmm…. LOL! OMG, I can’t remember! LOL! At least a couple hundred. :) Can’t remember how many servings this cake was…
